Patient selection is extremely important in producing good outcomes. If a patient is not a good candidate for a particular procedure, there is obviously a lower chance the procedure will be successful in addressing that patient's pathologies. There is no way to issue a blanket statement about who is or is not a good candidate for a procedure; every patient presents a unique challenge.

We know that the MRI is a limited diagnostic tool. It does not show inflammation, and it cannot diagnose pain. However, it is the best imaging we have for spine problems, so North American Spine will examine your MRI in conjunction with a conversation regarding pain history and symptoms to determine if we may be able to help relieve your back pain. We can make a preliminary determination based on this information, but we will continue to collect data on patients and screen them until they are examined in the office by one of our physicians. If a patient has not exhausted conservative means of treatment, our physicians will refer them to physical therapy, chiropractic care or pain management. If a patient requires a more invasive procedure or hardware, our physicians will refer them to orthopedic surgeons or neurosurgeons. Each patient is treated according to his or her unique needs.

The AccuraScope D.N.D. procedure for lumbar spine is extremely effective in treating many common causes of back pain. Herniated or bulging discs are the most common sources of pain - usually at L5/S1 or L4/L5 - and we treat these issues succesfully every single day. Thoracic and Cervical disc problems are also treated using other minimally invasive techniques.
Spinal stenosis and sciatica can be caused by several different pathologies, most of which can be addressed by our physicians. Scar tissue from previous back surgeries - commonly referred to as failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS) - can be addressed as well. Degenerative disc disease has no cure, as it is part of the aging process, but we treat the bulging or herniated discs that so often accompany it. Arthritis of the spine, Facet disease and other common problems are also treated
Back problems are frequently mis-diagnosed based on an MRI. Even more frequently, a patient's MRI will not show any evidence that they should be experiencing the excruciating pain they are experiencing. For these patients, the diagnostic ability of the AccuraScope can be a great advantage in not only determining the cause of the pain, but treating it simultaneously. The best way to determine whether we can help your specific problem is by contacting us and speaking to our health professionals at 1-877-474-BACK.
Again, patient selection is extremely important to North American Spine. The MRI Review we offer patients is in no way perfunctory or a formality. Many patients may suffer from issues that require more invasive surgeries, and we happily refer these patients to orthopedic surgeons or neurosurgeons that perform those surgeries. Some examples of issues we do not address include scoliosis, spondylolisthesis, large bone spurs or other diseases that have compromised the stability of the spine.
